In Class Task: Technical Drawing in Textiles

This task is aimed to help students to understand the importance of technical drawings within Textiles and Design industry.

Apparel Production drawings:

  1. Explain the differences between a technical and non technical audience for graphic communication in textiles. (Hint: Think about types of fashion drawings).
  2. Describe what is being communicated by Production Drawings.
  3. Give 3 reasons why production drawings are needed as well as fashion drawings in the textiles industry.
Use textbooks, Internet and other resources to answer the questions above.

Design Inspiration!

Charles Sturt University and the department of education and training have created great support documents online for students doing their HSC.

This document is on Design Inspiration. It will assist you on how to find, display and evaluate your inspirational materials to gain to knowledge and understanding on starting your Major Design Project. These materials might be your own sketches and drawings, collections of other designers works, colours and textures that might be suitable, life experiences like travel and movies that relate to your theme.

In the outcomes box at the top of the page it says that the site is made to help students with outcome H1.1 (critically analyses and explains the factors that have contributed to the design and manufacture of the Major Textiles Project) of the syllaybus but i believe is relates to outcome H2.1(communicates design concepts and manufacturing specifications to both technical and non-technical audiences) with the same amount of significance. Design Inspiration is directly related to the Design Concepts mentioned in H2.1.

What You Have To Do To Get Good Marks

ARC Standards Packages help you to see the level of work you need to achieve to gain top marks in your HSC courses.

The Textiles and Design Standards Package displays major works, portfolios, pervious year examination papers, answers to previous year’s exam questions (in varying bands ranges) and other support materials.

Here is the link to the Textiles and Design Standards Package

These standards packages are also good as inspiration for completing your portfolio and major work. As they show layout, evaluations, development of ideas and previous students inspiration for creating their project.

HSC Marking Simulation

I have just found a few videos on a curriculum support website from the department of education and training. The videos are of a HSC marking simulation. It is quite informative for students studying Stage 6 Textiles and Design.

The markers go through everything that is expected of students for the major design work and portfolio.

Topics covered by the videos include:
  • HSC marking process
  • Major textiles work
  • Production drawings and fabric swatches
  • Experimentation
  • Maximising your marks
  • Examples of student work
  • Folio documentation
These videos can help solidify what you need to do for your Major project and your Portfolio!

Take a look!
